Over the course of our law enforcement & security careers, we have responded to thousands of burglaries, assaults, thefts from vehicles and stolen cars. While anyone can be the victim of crime, we have seen patterns and of behavior - by both criminals and their victims and can substantially improve or reduce the odds of a crime occurring.
While anyone can be the victim of crime, there are steps homeowners or renters can take that can substantially reduce the chances of them becoming a target of a criminal act, or mitigate the damage/loss if they are victimized.
Home security is not a one-step solution and it is important to know that no security system on earth is impenetrable. Security systems are designed to deter a criminal act, and buy time. Time for a neighbor to notice someone trying to break into your house. Time for the police to respond to your alarm. Time for you to gather your family and get them to safety.
While some companies will simply sell you an expensive alarm system designed to make you feel safe, our objective is to provide an evidence-based assessment on your neighborhood, where you live, your behavior, and your physical security measures in place to help devise a plan that will actually increase the security of you and your family in and around your home.
Security assessment
Our security assessment consists of an online questionnaire to help us understand your goals, behaviors, security knowledge and limitations that will take about 30 minutes to complete. We then schedule a visit with you to walk through your home and look at your existing security measures in place, and further discuss your security goals. Our walk through generally takes about 90 minutes as we inspect the physical security of your home, outbuildings, property and neighborhood.
Security report & safety plan
After our walk through is complete, we draft a detailed report assessing the overall security of your home. Our reports include recent crime trends in your neighborhood and surrounding city, and our recommendations to improve the safety of you, your loved ones and your property through physical security measures (i.e. locks, windows, doors, alarms), environmental design (property, landscaping, etc) or behaviors. Usually, we are able to identify several security improvements can be made with simple, inexpensive fixes or changes in your behavior ("low hanging fruit").
We also identify basic steps you can take in the event of an emergency - for instance, what to do and where you should go if you have an intruder enter your house at night. These plans can be further refined with our additional emergency planning and crime response training services.
When your security report is complete we are happy to setup a time at no additional cost to return to your house, and meet with you in person about our recommendations and the information we provided. The information is yours to do with it what you please. You can pick and choose what you want to do. Perhaps you feel your home security is in a good place, and our report simply provided you with the peace of mind that you are doing the right things. You can make improvements on your own, or work us to take additional steps such as emergency planning and crime response training.
